SCDOT closing portion of bypass for 80 days

Per a news release today from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the U.S. 17 bypass bridge connecting the bypass with Highway 17 business near 82nd Avenue north is going to be out of commission for at least the next 80 days.

The release states that the SCDOT "is performing bridge deck rehabilitation requiring a lane closure on US 17 Bypass northbound at the intersection with 82nd Parkway as well as the southbound ramp onto US 17 Bypass from US 17 Business northbound in Horry County through May 25, 2017.

The US 17 Bypass Bridge over US 17 Business will be closed continuously for 80 days while crews work to perform the deck rehabilitation, and all lanes are scheduled to reopen to traffic on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Motorists are urged to use 82nd Parkway to detour the US 17 Bypass Bridge. If travelling on US 17 Bypass northbound, turn right onto 82nd Parkway and left onto US 17 Business (N Kings Highway) and continue on US 17 northbound. If travelling northbound on US 17 Business and wishing to travel southbound on US 17 Bypass, turn left onto 82nd Parkway and left onto US 17 Bypass southbound.

Motorists traveling along this section of US 17 are advised to use caution in the work zone and expect traffic congestion. Motorists are also encouraged to use alternate routes or the dedicated detour to avoid severe congestion on US 17."
