Years ago, basketball legend Michael Jordan just seemed to get tired of winning, so he left the NBA and his beloved Chicago Bulls to try his hand at baseball. He got as high as AA Birmingham, never getting good enough for the Chicago White Sox to call him up to the major leagues.
Tim Tebow - yeah THAT Tim Tebow - is giving a go after a spectacular college football career at the University of Florida and a bumpier tenure in the NFL. So the New York Mets offered him a spring training invitation, and lo and behold, their Class A team, in its second season in nearby Columbia, SC, added him to their roster.
Last night at the Columbia Fireflies' home (and season) opener, Tebow only needed one at-bat to become a fan favorite. Watch as he launches a pitch into the left field bleachers at Spirit Communications Park. Watch, courtesy of The State (newspaper).
