ST5: Selena Gomez’s AMAs Performance Criticized

“Justice League” debuted in first place with $96 million, but it’s still considered a box office bomb. The movie was expected to open somewhere between $110-120 million, but it didn’t even crack the $100 million mark, the first WB/DC live-action movie that failed to hit that mark since the 2011 stinker, “Green Lantern.” And on a side note, “Justice League” failed to crack the top 50 highest box office openings of all-time. Coming in second was “Wonder” with $27.1 million. “Thor: Ragnarok” was third with $21.8 million.

Kim Kardashian West finally had to let her personal assistant Stephanie Shepherd go. Stephanie’s been Kim’s right hand since 2013, but things started going downhill after Stephanie did an interview with Refinery 29 earlier this year. Kim was also uncomfortable with Stephanie’s super close friendship with sister Kourtney, who told Kim that Stephanie was growing frustrated in her position and wanted more. So Kim gave Stephanie a bigger role in her company, and apparently, she didn’t have the skills to keep up. Kim finally dropped the axe. A source told People that Stephanie is still friendly with the other sisters, but she and Kim are no longer speaking.

Despite his social media meltdowns, a judge has granted Tyrese 50/50 custody of his 10-year-old daughter Shayla beginning in January. His ex-wife’s request for a permanent restraining order was denied. After his victory in court, Tyrese posted a whole bunch of pictures of him and his daughter and released a statement on Instagram: “Today is not a win for me, it is a win for our daughter, Shayla. Who unfortunately has been exposed to tension, private and public embarrassment and growing up and feeling torn between 2 parents who are no longer married…” …He went on to say that none of the accusations his ex-wife made against him are credible, and that most importantly, he “never engaged in violent or abusive behavior.” He asks us all to go to ShaylaRocks.com, where he’s got a bunch of t-shirts and hoodies for sale that say “Shayla Rocks.” And he also asks us to google “parenting alienation” and “pathological enmeshment.”

The Weeknd unfollowed Selena pretty much the minute they broke up, but it looks like Selena waited until this weekend to unfollow The Weeknd on Instagram. She has not made the big move of following Justin Bieber just yet. Fans did notice, however, that Justin liked and then quickly unliked a photo posted on a Selena fan account.

The 45th annual American Music Awards were hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, which was fine. Her entire family showed up, she said, not to support her, but to watch her mom Diana Ross receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Among the most talked about moments from the show was Selena Gomez taking the stage for the first time since her kidney transplant earlier this year. She performed with newly blonde hair and then got slammed for lip-synching “Wolves.” Pink made everyone hold their breath as she performed “Beautiful Trauma” while hanging off the side of a building, but then she was attacked for making a face while Christina Aguilera performed a tribute to Whitney Houston. Pink went on Twitter to clear that up quick, saying, “Christina (BLANKING) killed it tonight for one of our favorite singers ever. This about Whitney, and I am in awe of Christina’s talent. Show the clip where I’m in tears, you negative Nancy’s!” As far as the awards themselves, Bruno Mars went into the night with the most nominations — eight. He ended up winning seven, including Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist. Lady Gaga won Female Pop/Rock Artist. Imagine Dragons won the Favorite Group award. Linkin Park dedicated their Alternative Rock Artist award to the late Chester Pennington. Niall Horan took New Artist of the Year. And on the country music side of things, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood took Favorite Male and Female Country Artist.
