ST5: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle are officially engaged

Did you miss the Miss Universe pageant last night? It kinda got lost in the shuffle of the holiday weekend. Basically — from what I’ve been told because I missed it, too — host Steve Harvey was still cracking jokes about his big screw up from two years ago and pretty women got to put on pretty dresses and express their opinions on topics like sexual harassment and terrorism. But at the end of the night, live from Las Vegas, out of 92 contenders, it was Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who took the crown. Miss Colombia was second and Miss Jamaica placed third. Miss USA did make the top ten.

Pixar’s “Coco” won the box office over the weekend, taking in $49 million. “Coco” has already set box office records in Mexico, where it’s earned $53.4 million in three weeks. “Justice League” fell to second with $40.7 million over the holiday weekend. But “Wonder” continues to hold strong, with $22.3 million and a third place finish. The movie only cost $20 million to make and it’s already earned close to $70 million.

Ryan Dorsey brought his wife Naya Rivera and their 2-year-old son Josey back home to West Virginia for Thanksgiving and things didn’t go well. While on a walk with their son Saturday, they got into an argument. That’s when Ryan says Naya hit him on the head and in the face, which he caught on video and handed over to the police. Naya was arrested that night and released Sunday morning on $1000 bond. Her father-in-law picked her up from jail.

Mariah Carey has been forced to cancel the first few shows of her “All I Want for Christmas Tour” because she’s still not over an upper respiratory infection. She’s supposed to take the stage on Saturday night in NYC before taking her love for Christmas on the road to Europe and then Vegas. And Jay Z is canceling shows because they simply can’t handle it! First in Fresno and now in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jay Z says the venues couldn’t handle his production requirements and accommodate all the screens he needs to put on a concert that meets his standards. He apologized to his fans, but said, “I respect you guys too much to take the money and run.”

Hear ye! Hear ye! Prince Charles issued a Royal proclamation this morning! “His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.” According to the Kensington Palace Twitter account, which I follow religiously, Harry and Meghan have a photo call scheduled at the palace this afternoon and they’ll do a TV interview this evening. That’s when we get to see her engagement ring, which we hear Harry designed for Meghan using diamonds form a brooch that once belonged to his mother, Princess Diana.
