Socastee area traffic woes caused by 'mass casualty' accident

posted by Ron -

ABC 15 / WPDE-TV reports a "mass casualty" accident tied up Socastee roads and highways this morning well beyond 10 a.m.

The accident actually happened in the 5 a.m. hour, per a Tweet from Horry County Fire & Rescue.

The accident was described by authorities to have been a head-on collision between a car and a work/utility van full of painters.

Google Maps shows no traffic issues on Socastee Boulevard currently, but Dick Pond Road onto 544 towards 17 Bypass is still a slow craw as of 1:45pm.

Horrible head on collision on 707 in Socastee by the new elementary school. They'll probably shut it down.

The final update from Horry County Fire & Rescue indicates severe injuries, but no known fatalities at this point.
