Hurricane Florence Makes Landfall Near Wilmington, NC

WILMINGTON, NC - Hurricane Florence has made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, on Friday morning with max sustained winds of 90 mph. The eye of the storm officially came ashore at 7:15am Friday. 

Heavy rains and a ten-foot storm surge have been turning streets into streams for hours and scores of people are trapped by floodwaters.  In New Bern, North Carolina, more than 100 people are waiting for rescuers to take them to safety.  A weather station in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina got more than a foot of rain in 24 hours and already around 370,000 customers are without power. 

The storm is expected to continue dropping heavy rain over the Carolinas through Sunday as it moves slowly across the South Carolina. Currently the storm is moving west northwest at 6 mph.
