Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield are setting the record straight on their viral Golden Globes kiss.

Garfield and Reynolds sat down for Variety's Actors on Actors series where they discussed their films We Live in Time and Deadpool & Wolverine, respectively, but one topic of conversation that came up was the surprising smooch they shared at the 2017 Golden Globes, where Reynolds was up for the award for best actor in a musical or comedy for his role in Deadpool, per People.

"The last time I saw you was the Golden Globes," Reynolds said, before breaking down the story that led to the pair sharing an unexpected kiss during the ceremony. "Garfield was sitting beside me, and he goes, 'Hey, if they call your name and you win, don't kiss your wife [Blake Lively], just kiss me."

However, Reynolds' name wasn't called, losing out to Ryan Gosling for his role in La La Land. The pair decided to go through with the kiss anyway. The kiss was seen in the background of the telecast in a wide shot of the crowd as Gosling walked on stage, so many viewers didn't see it until much later, which Reynolds said was "actually kind of perfect."

While the Amazing Spider-Man star told Reynolds he was "glad that you were game" for the kiss, even jokingly, both he and the Proposal actor feel a bit bad for taking away some of the spotlight on Gosling.

"I also retrospectively felt a little bit insensitive towards Ryan's moment," Garfield added.
