School Threw Out Hot Meals of Students With Over $15 Lunch Debt

A Minnesota high school is in hot water after video surfaced of staff throwing hot lunches in the trash because some families owed money.

Students with $15 or more in lunch debt saw their hot meals removed from their trays, tossed in the trash, and replaced with cold dishes. It happened to nearly 40 kids Monday at Richfield High School, station KARE reports.

The District has since apologized saying, "We deeply regret our actions today and the embarrassment that it caused several of our students. ... We have met with some of the students involved and apologized to them."

The District says what occurred never should have happened. Lunch debt is something that should be communicated privately either through administration or the counselors' office.
