Pharrell Williams has been honored with the key to Miami-Dade County after making an impact

The Black Ambition founder received the key at the 5th Annual Black Ambition Demo Day at the Sacred Space Miami on Friday night, November 14. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava presented Williams, and CEO of Black Ambition, Felecia Hatcher, with the prestigious prize for their work with the non-profit initiative Williams founded in 2020, which helps "close the opportunity and wealth gap through entrepreneurship." The mayor also recognized his endeavors with Miami's nightlife with his hot spots, Strawberry Moon and Swan.

“There’s so much brilliance out there that never gets seen,” Pharrell said, per Miami New Times. “That’s why we built Black Ambition, to make sure talent doesn’t stop at potential.”

Before the key was presented, Williams and Hatcher brought together artists, rising founders, and investors for a top-notch gathering that embraces entrepreneurship. The Grammy Award-winning artist and Mellody Hobson, President and Co-CEO of Ariel Investments, also participated in a fireside chat moderated by Hatcher. During the panel discussion, Pharrell spoke about his views on politics and shared his true goal with Black Ambition.

“I hate politics; it’s a magic trick that isn’t real," he explained. "I don’t believe in either side, because if you’re on either side, you’re supporting division. We can’t just be the inspiration for American capitalism; we need to start capitalizing on that.”

“We just received the keys to the city, and keys are supposed to open doors. But for many founders, those doors often stay closed," Hatcher said.

“That’s what we want to do with Black Ambition," P concluded.

The event, which was presented by Visa, Louis Vuitton, Adidas, and the Lennar Foundation, ended with a surprise performance from Chance The Rapper. See videos from the event below.
